Ipswich Choral Society
Ipswich Choral Society is a historic mixed-voice amateur choir that brings together around 100 members with a wide range of musical experience. Established way back in 1824, it holds a proud reputation as the second oldest choral society in England. The group focuses on practicing and staging an expansive varied musical repertoire, which ranges from classical masterpieces like Handel's Messiah to newly commissioned pieces. New singers can get involved by attending an open rehearsal, giving you a casual chance to see if it is a good fit before deciding whether to commit.
Weekly practices take place on Tuesday evenings during term time at an established arts centre. The society puts on three main concerts every year, routinely staging public performances in local churches and town halls, as well as making occasional trips further afield for national and international tours. Your annual membership fee includes your music hire, so you will not need to buy your own scores for the season. There is also a massive social side to the whole setup, with members regularly heading out for a drink at a local pub straight after rehearsals wrap up.
