EVENT

Words & Verses - 2 November

Ipswich's longest-running spoken word open mic event, now celebrating its 14th year, offers an evening of humorous and bold spoken word performances. This event welcomes writers and performers of all kinds, including poets, rappers, comedians, and storytellers, who may present original work or covers. Attendees can simply enjoy the performances without the need to participate, providing support for those sharing their creations in a warm and inclusive setting. Performers can sign up on arrival and throughout the evening, with each speaker typically allotted about five minutes, ensuring everyone has an opportunity to take the mic. Late arrivals are also accommodated.

The event is hosted by Ipswich poet Amy Wragg of SoapBox Spoken Word CIC, known for appearances at venues such as WOMAD, Strawberry Fair, Foreword Fringe, and others. Wragg's performances blend poetry, comedy, and political themes with a candid and lively style. All attendees receive a free handmade SoapBox Zine, which is exclusively available in print during the event.
