VENUE
Ipswich Regent Theatre brings touring musicals, live music and comedy to St Helen’s Street, with dance shows and an annual pantomime adding to the mix. With more than 1,500 seats, it is East Anglia’s largest theatre and gives local audiences the chance to see major touring productions close to home. Recent improvements have added better toilet facilities, improved accessibility and updated the spaces where visitors gather before shows and during intervals.
The Regent opened in 1929 as a cinema and variety theatre, combining films with live entertainment. Its Grade II listed building retains its Art Deco character, while its stage has welcomed performers including Tina Turner, U2 and the Beatles, who appeared in 1964 when the venue was known as the Gaumont. That long history continues through today’s programme, whether visitors are coming for a concert, a comedian or a family trip to the pantomime.
