The Baths

The Baths stands as the largest live music and event venue operated by Brighten The Corners. Located on Civic Drive, this former public bathhouse has been dynamically reimagined into one of Ipswich's most beloved cultural spaces. Featuring a distinctive low-ceilinged aesthetic that generates an intense, electric atmosphere, it has become a go-to destination for touring artists, club nights, and community gatherings.

The Space & Amenities

With a mid-sized 300-person capacity, the venue bridges the gap between intimate gigs and major shows. Audiences frequently praise the space for its top-tier crowd experience, which includes:
• Production Value: Equipped with a professional-grade sound system and an advanced lighting rig that ensures exceptionally crisp live audio.
• Layout: Excellent sightlines across the room and a massive, venue-width bar built to keep queue times short.
• Versatility: The flexible open floor plan allows the venue to transition seamlessly from sweaty rock shows to beer festivals, comedy nights, and educational workshops.

A Storied History

The building originally opened as the St Matthews Baths Hall. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, it secured a legendary status in music history when workers laid heavy wooden boards directly over the swimming pool to create a dancefloor. This makeshift arena hosted iconic global acts including Led Zeppelin, Cream, and Rod Stewart before the building spent decades serving as a social club and a local gym. Today, that heritage is kept alive by contemporary performers like AJ Tracey, Nabihah Iqbal, and The Wedding Present.
